There are many things to consider when  adding a new concrete driveway, patio or sidewalk to your home.  The very first would have to be your budget.  That alone could determine if you are going with standard or decorative concrete.  The average price per square foot for standard concrete is between $3-$4.  The average for decorative is $6-$16 depending on the finish you desire.

The location of the pour could also change the price considerably.  If a concrete pump is required or if it has to be wheel barrowed a large distance.

Here are some pictures of a couple of jobs installed this month.

This back patio project was fun.  We disconnected there gas tank and moved it out of the way.  Then we formed up planter areas for the homeowner.  Drilled into existing concrete wall and installed 1/2 rebar every 24 inches.  Graded, poured and stripped.  Waiting 10-14 days to go back and apply stain.

Garage door prices can range from $450 to more than $8,000; since that price range is too large to be at all helpful, this post will help you “ballpark” the price of a garage door. We will break it down according to the type of material used, providing a summary and price range for each type of garage door; so this post should be really helpful as a first step in deciding which garage door is right for you.  Call us today for a free quote!! The size of the door affects the price, so you should begin by measuring your garage door. Standard garage door sizes are 8×7, 9×7, 16X7, 8×8, 9×8, and 16×8. For each type of door, I will quote the 8×7 garage doors. Prices for a 16×7 door will naturally be nearly twice the price, a 9×7 door to be about 10% more and then add 20%-25% for doors that are 8 foot high.

The material of the door will also have a big impact on the price you pay. However, whichever door you pick you can expect to have it for a long time. So, consider your needs at least as much as you consider the price. How much you paid is long forgotten 8 to 10 years down the road. You want to make sure it is something you will be happy with; so I will provide a summary of each door type as well as the price.

Steel Garage Door - Steel is the most common material used in garage doors and also the least expensive. When purchasing a steel garage door you will need to consider how much insulation to purchase, your best bet is to match the R value of your home. A typical home is R-12. The downside to steel is that it dents the nice thing about steel is the price.

Garage doors need tune-ups too! | North Georgia

Listen to your garage door. If a squeak or raucous rattle has replaced its usual purr, it’s time to start thinking “tuneup.”  Disconnect the garage door opener by pulling the emergency release cord.  Lift the door up halfway and hold your hands closely under the door, like this homeowner is doing.  Your garage door should not fall down or fly up suddenly.  If it doesn’t, then you have a properly balanced door. But you must take the rollers into consideration.  If they haven’t been lubricated or do not have bearings in them to start with, then they could be camoflouging the true balance of the door.  We use only the best rollers on the market for our tune-ups or installs.  These 11Ball Bearing rollers are under a Lifetime Warranty and come with a can of heavy-duty lubricant. Stock door rollers are usually plastic without any bearings at all.

Here are some safety tips from Clopay Building Products, the largest manufacturer of residential garage doors in the United States, and On Trac Overhead Door Co.: Check the hardware and opener every four to six months, says Roger Langdon, branch manager of On Trac in Alpharetta.

Make sure the door goes up and down smoothly when manually operated.

Make sure garage door springs are tightly wound and under high tension.

Make sure the bottom brackets aren’t loose.

Check cables for frayed or worn strips hanging loose on the spring system.

We recommend lubricating the springs with white lithium grease and the rollers with silicone spray, available at hardware and auto supply stores.

Call for an annual door inspection for lubrication and adjustment. Ask us!

Make sure the remote controls are out of reach of children.

Make sure the system has a properly working safety reverse system. That means, says Langdon, if the door comes down on a person, pet or object, the door stops and reverses itself.

Ensure that infrared sensors are mounted on either side at the base of the garage door. The legal requirement is no more than 6 inches off the ground, to ensure that even a baby crawling under a descending door will break up the beam of light and the door will reverse itself
